The Needs are Vast Please Donate. The Grand Rapids Public Library has a rich heritage of service to our community since 1871. It is the only Library in West Michigan designated a major urban resource library by both the federal and state governments. Today, the Library serves over 2.3 million people each year at the Main Library, its 7 branches and via the internet. These people live throughout West Michigan. Anyone with a library card from one of the 77 libraries in the eight-county Lakeland Cooperative service area may borrow from the Grand Rapids Public Library.
